Ghanaian star Mohammed Kudus has been assigned his Legacy Number at Tottenham Hotspur after making his first competitive appearance for the club.

The 25-year-old became the 896th player to feature in a competitive game for Spurs, marking the milestone in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash against European champions Paris Saint-Germain in Udine, Italy.

Kudus impressed during his 79-minute outing as Spurs raced to a 2-0 lead before conceding twice late on, eventually losing 6-5 on penalties. Micky van de Ven and Mathys Tel missed from the spot for Tottenham, while PSG sealed their sixth trophy of the year.

Despite the defeat, Kudus took encouragement from the team’s performance and is already eyeing his Premier League debut against Burnley this weekend.

“It is disappointing to lose the game in the end. This is a big lesson to stay focused for the whole 90 minutes, but I am really proud of the team for their work ethic and energy… We take this as a lesson. We have a game at the weekend and full focus on that,” he said post-match.

Kudus joined Spurs from West Ham United this summer in a deal worth £55 million.
