Ghana football legend, Mohammed Polo, has called for Otto Addo to step down as head coach of the Black Stars following their 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Polo, who was part of Ghana's victorious 1982 AFCON squad, made these remarks after Ghana's campaign hit a new low with the loss on Tuesday.

Sudan's two goals, scored by Ahmed Mohamed and Abdelrahman shortly after half-time, deepened Ghana's struggles in the qualification race.

The defeat leaves Ghana trailing Sudan by five points in Group F, with a challenging away fixture against an in-form Angola—2024 AFCON quarter-finalists—still to come.

In the wake of the loss, there have been widespread calls for Otto Addo to step down, with Polo expressing that if he were in Addo's position, he would have already resigned.

"If I were Otto Addo, I would have resigned by now," Polo stated in an interview with Akoma FM, a Kumasi-based radio station.

Ghana's qualification hopes for the 2025 AFCON now hang in the balance, with critical matches ahead as pressure mounts on the Black Stars' coach.
