The Ministry of Interior has announced to the General Public that Monday 28th December,2020 has been declared a statutory public holiday.

This is because Boxing Day which is a public holiday falls on a weekend and must as such be observed on a week day which is on Monday 28th December,2020.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Interior and signed by the sector Minister, Ambrose Dery, it urges the General Public to observe it accordingly.

The general public is hereby notified that, Saturday, 26th December, 2020 marks ‘BOXING DAY which is a statutory public holiday.

However, 26th December, 2020 falls on a Saturday and therefore, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana has by an Executive  Instrument (E.I), and in accordance with section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commorative Days, 2001 (Act 601) declared Monday, 28th December, 2020as an Additional Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country

Boxing Day is the next day after Christmas day and it is often noted for the boxing of gifts to friends, family and loved ones.

It emanates from the colonial days when slaves where given a free day to visit their families and are also handed gifts by their slave masters.
