Women in Morocco have expressed their disgust after a programme on state television educated the women on how to use makeup to cover up evidence of domestic violence.

A segment of the daily programme Sabahiyat on Channel 2M showed a makeup artist demonstrating how to hide marks of physical abuse on the face of women using makeup.

The Guardian reported that the host of the show said at the end of the show that “we hope these beauty tips will help you carry on with your daily life.”

This led to women in Morocco signing a petition demanding an apology and subsequent sanctions against the station.

The channel has since clarified its actions on its Facebook wall saying that the sections was “completely inappropriate and has an editorial error of judgment in view of the sensitivity and the gravity of the subject of violence against women”.

Meanwhile, the channel has removed the clip from its website but social media users especially twitter users have been circulating the video.
