Striker Ayoub El Kaabi was on target for Morocco in a 2-0 victory over Namibia in the quarter-final of the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Saturday to become the player who has scored the most goals in a single edition since its inception.
The 24-year-old's first half strike created CHAN history as he took his tournament tally to six goals, bettering the previous record of five goals held by Zambian Given Singuluma, in the first edition nine years ago.
El Kaabi has two more chances to increase his tally, in the semi-final clash against Libya which would be followed by either the final or a third-place play-off.
Should he continue to impress, Morocco World Cup coach Herve Renard may be tempted to give him a chance in warm-up matches ahead of the global showpiece in Russia from mid-June.
