Foldable phones are finally a reality. Samsung earlier this year launched its first-ever commercial foldable smartphone Galaxy Fold. Soon, TCL and Huawei followed with their own foldable devices. Now, Lenovo-owned Motorola is set to join the race with a foldable phone, but with its own unique take on the tech.
Motorola has already confirmed it is indeed planning to launch a foldable smartphone this year. According to reports, Motorola will launch an updated version of its iconic Razr flip phone as its new foldable smartphone.
If you’re familiar with flip phones, it has two panels, one with screen while the second one houses the physical buttons. A foldable Razr phone will be no different. According to reports, it will unfold like a flip phone and will also house a secondary display when closed.
According to a new report on XDA Developers, Motorola Razr phone’s secondary display will be quite different from the secondary displays on Huawei Mate X or Samsung Galaxy Fold. Unlike these phones, the secondary display will be unique screen with its own set of apps and features.

According to the report, the screen will allow users to access six key functions of Settings, scroll web pages and apps, and separate wallpaper. The closed screen will also allow users to access Google Assistant and key features of the camera application. There will also be a dedicated Moto Display app which may be similar to watch faces for smart watches.
While the specifications of the Razr foldable phone aren’t out yet, a recent listing gave a closer look at the design. The phone has a long and vertical display when unfolded and a secondary display when closed. It also has a front-facing camera. Rest of the design elements looks very similar to the older flip phone.
