Adams Abdul-Salam, the Member of Parliament for New Edubiase, has pledged that the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will ensure the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
This assurance came after John Dramani Mahama and the NDC were declared winners of the 2024 general elections.
Despite the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), finishing bottom of Group F with just three points, Abdul-Salam expressed optimism about their World Cup prospects.
In an interview with Asempa FM, he stated, "President-elect, John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government are determined to ensure the Black Stars will qualify for the 2026 World Cup."
He acknowledged the team’s disappointing AFCON performance but assured that the new government would collaborate closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and provide the necessary logistics to support the team in their World Cup qualification journey.
"It is our biggest objective to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the tournament," Abdul-Salam added.
Currently, the Black Stars are second in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, tied with Comoros on nine points.
Their next qualifiers will take place in March 2025, with matches against Chad and Madagascar.
In addition, Abdul-Salam assured his constituents that the New Edubiase Sports Stadium, which was started under the previous NDC administration but left incomplete by the NPP, will be finished under John Mahama's leadership.
He emphasized that the stadium would be a key project for the new government, as promised during the campaign.
