The vicious attack on the Member of Parliament for Tafo-Pankrono, Honorable Akoto Osei, by some members of the Delta Force group, for his show of no concern towards the needs of his constituents, raises the issue of providing security for Members of Parliament.

The Member of Parliament for Kumbungu in the Northern Region, Honorable Ras Mubarak, though expressing his displeasure by the action taken by the group to express their grievances, discouraged any attempt to provide police security for Members of Parliament.

Speaking on GN Morning U.K, the Member of Parliament stated that, MPs do not require police security and will at any time oppose that decision if ever brought up.

"The police officers are better off on the streets stopping crime and not policing MPs.  I am okay with what I put in place to take care of myself, I don’t know about my colleagues, but I also believe it will be wrong. I will oppose any attempt to give Members of Parliament’s police officers; I would oppose it on principle, on the fact that we don’t have enough police officers fighting crimes’’.

According to him, the number of Members of Parliament is a huge one and this will be unfair considering cost associated with this.

"I don’t need state security, I know I have to take care of myself because we have 275 Members of Parliament, are you going to give every one of them a police officer?  Isn’t that cost to the state when there is crime on the increase?" he quizzed.
