Veteran Kumawood actor Agya Koo has recounted a difficult period in his career when he faced a series of attacks from some producers in the Nigerian movie industry.

Speaking in an interview on Lawson Radio on November 10, 2024, the Kumawood star revealed that during his prime, some Nigerians were plotting his downfall, despite inviting him to act in Nigeria.

Agya Koo explained that the late actor Mr. Ibu played a key role in protecting him from these attacks by keeping him informed about the plans of Nigerian actors.

"It got to a point where the Nigerian movie industry wasn’t making much progress here in Ghana. They even held a meeting in Lagos to figure out who the ‘Agya Koo’ guy was, and someone from there called me to warn me," Agya Koo said.

"I had a friend who knew Mr. Ibu, and whenever anything happened, Ibu would call me to let me know. One day, he called to warn me not to venture into Nigeria. So when they offered me money to act, I avoided it," he added.

Agya Koo also addressed claims that he was selective about the roles he took, clarifying that his decision was based on health concerns.

"There was a time I started having issues with my eyes. I went for several eye tests, but they all came back normal. Then, I received calls from Mercy Asiedu and Miracle Films, who said they had dreams about me undergoing eye surgery and advised me to be careful."

"I asked the directors to reduce the night shoots, but they were hesitant. That’s why people thought I was refusing some roles," he explained.
