Mubarak Wakaso: A key figure in Deportivo Alavés renaissance
20th February 2019
Ghanaian international Mubarak Wakaso is playing a key role in Deportivo Alaves’ turn in fortunes in recent weeks.
After three consecutive defeats in La Liga, the Basque club look like they are returning to the form that made them a force to be reckoned with at the start of the season.
Alaves have amassed four points out of a possible six in their last two games ( a 2-0 victory against Levante and a 1-1 draw at home to Real Betis on Sunday).
The draw which means the El Glorioso side remain in sixth position with 36 points, same as Getefe in 5th position and just a point behind Sevilla in fourth place.
This mini resurgence is due to several changes in the starting eleven by coach Abelardo Fernandez.
The Spanish tactician has repeated the same eleven in the last two duels, which introduced Takashi Inui, Wakaso and Brasanac, a trio that have clearly impacted on the recent positive results.
He has also ditched the 4-4-2, the most used system since his landing in Mendizorroza, and has opted for the 4-3-3 that he had already used during the first round of this League.
Wakaso is enjoying a very good season after making 17 appearances in the La Liga this season.
