Query: My husband calls me fat all the time. I ignored it initially but it has started to affect my self-esteem and gradually I am developing very negative feelings towards him. I am trying hard to lose but I am not able to!
Response by Dr Rachna Khanna Singh: Hi, thank you for writing to us. I understand that you are upset with your husband’s behaviour. Constant criticism can not only prevent you from feeling appreciated and/or loved but can also affect your self-esteem.
I suggest you take a step back and try to explain to your husband how his words and actions are making you feel. Once he gets an idea of how things look from your perspective, he might become more supportive.
You might also want to try changing your outlook on this situation, i.e. looking at it from a different and more positive viewpoint. Therefore, I suggest you be open to the idea that your husband is in fact only just trying to help.
Lastly, I want you to know that you are doing everything in your capacity but some things are beyond your control and you should not feel defeated because of that. You should try practising self-love, a great way to do so is by saying affirmations every morning. Learning to love yourself will improve your life for the better.
Hope this helps
