Dubai: For the final part of this series, exploring the host country through the eyes of expats from some of the AFC Asian Cup participating countries, we meet an Uzbek Restaurateur.

Makhmud Muzaffarovich came from the Uzbek capital Tashkent to the UAE three years ago, bringing along a taste of home with the opening of a restaurant in Dubai named after his home town. Muzaffarovich speaks to us about Uzbek cuisine, living in the UAE and football as we watch a unique Uzbek dish, Lagman soup, being prepared.

"People here are very friendly and respectful," opines Muzaffarovich about his adopted home. "Emiratis are particularly nice to everyone.

"One thing I do miss about Uzbekistan, though, are weddings. They are a big part of our culture and always visible. Traditional dancers are unique and a joy to watch.

"Plov is perhaps the most famous Uzbek dish. It can be found in different cuisines across central-Asia and Russia, but it's not the only dish you should try. There is Lagman soup, Samsa (a pastry stuffed with meat, onions and spices). Kompot is the go-to drink if you are in Uzbekistan or visiting "Tashkent" restaurant in Dubai

"Outside Uzbek cuisines, I love Turkish food. My favourite dish is Iskender Kebap. I think Nusr-Et (Home to social media sensation Salt Bae) is the best place in town for Turkish food.

"When I am not working or tasting food, horse-riding is my favourite pastime. I often go to Habtoor Polo Resort to ride, picnic or just watch. Going to Jumeirah beach with friends is good fun and night walks are also a great way to unwind; Dubai Marina and JBR are absolutely marvellous places for a walk.

I am a Pakhtakor fan, and my favourite player is Odil Ahmedov. I look forward to watching him play. Everyone loves him, not just because he is talented, but also because he is a great person. He is humble and respectful.

Living in the UAE, it is thrilling that Uzbekistan will be playing here at the AFC Asian Cup, and a great opportunity to go to the stadium and cheer for the nation. I am very optimistic that we can go all the way to the final and maybe even win it!"
