Nana Asaase honoured at Ghana Writers Award

Ghana’s Famous traditional poet Philip Boakye Dua Oyinka known as Nana Asaase on Saturday bagged home an honourary award at the maiden edition of the Ghana Writers Awards ceremony held at Marvels Ghana Mini Golf Course in Accra.
Nana Asaase was presented with a citation in recognition of his exemplary role in promoting the indigenous and contemporary Ghanaian poetry.
Speaking in an interview at the ceremony the vice president of the Ghana writers Awards, Nana Antwi Boasiako said the award is expedient because the celebrated poet has devoted his energies towards the development of the Ghanaian culture through his performances.
“His costume on stage clearly identifies his unique style and creativity. He has demonstrated on various stages of performance that indeed Ghana has something to show the rest of the world. Through him, many Ghanaians have come to appreciate what poetry is all about. We feel very inspired by this, and therefore will want to recognize his effort with this award” he said.
Individuals and cooperate bodies, including Efua Sutherland, Adjei Agyei Baah, Citi Fm, Graphic Communications Group Limited, and Karis were also presented with citations for their contributions towards the promotion of the Ghanaian literary arts industry.
Ghana Writers Awards is a literary prize instituted by some young Ghanaian literary compatriots to celebrate and promote Ghanaian writers and literature. The maiden edition was on the theme: "Preserving the Ghanaian culture through creative writing: the role of writers”
