Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has launched a fresh attack on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Nana Boakye (Nana B), as “a lawyer with a small mind.”
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng dismissed claims that his controversial report on illegal mining (galamsey) contributed to the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections. He said the report only laid out the truth, and that the party’s real problem was its failure to confront serious internal and national concerns raised before the polls.
According to him, the NPP’s national headquarters has now been turned into an extension of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign office, even though the party has not conducted any honest post-election assessment of why it lost power.
He warned that pushing Dr. Bawumia forward again without first fixing the party’s internal problems would be a grave mistake.
“Ghanaians had genuine reasons for voting against the NPP. The party must respect the electorate by fixing its internal problems before seeking power again,” he said.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng also insisted that he remains loyal to what he called the “true NPP,” arguing that those promoting what he described as a “fake party” should rather be the ones to walk away.
His comments come as the NPP leadership has officially triggered processes to expel him from the party. The move follows his earlier remarks on Channel One TV on January 12, 2026, where he labelled the NPP a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considered himself a member.
The standoff deepens an already bitter internal rift within the opposition party as it struggles to regroup after its 2024 election defeat.
