Independent presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, has unveiled plans to revolutionize Ghana’s sports sector by embedding it within the educational framework if elected President.
During a Ghana Television Presidential Encounter, Bediako emphasized the critical need to nurture young sporting talents through structured training programs combined with formal education.
“What I would do for sports, which I think we are lacking, is to start infusing sports right into our educational system by partnering with people who are specialized in that,” he said, highlighting the absence of systematic development pathways for athletes in Ghana.
Bediako criticized the current reliance on natural talent, advocating for a disciplined approach to skill development.
“We Ghanaians become footballers by vision, not by skills or training. They need to be trained and coached. Even if you were born with it, you still have to go through it,” he asserted.
The entrepreneur-turned-politician also stressed the importance of educating young athletes on key aspects of lifestyle and personal health.
“You need to go through a process of learning about economics, training on what to eat, how to behave, how to discipline yourself, and how to protect your leg. We don’t have this in our schools,” he remarked.
Bediako’s vision aims to create a more sustainable sports industry by equipping athletes with the knowledge and tools necessary for long-term success.
Cheddar is one of 13 candidates contesting Ghana’s December 7 presidential election, bringing his business acumen and reformist ideas to the political stage.
