The former Member of Parliament for Nsuta Kwamang in Ashanti Region, Mr. Osei Kwame Prempeh has revealed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration employed as much as 11,000 workers in the public sector between December 7, 2016 and January 7, 2017.

The development has brought to question claims by the same NDC government that she needed to freeze employment in the public sector to restore fiscal discipline and stability of the country's economy.

Osei Kwame Prempeh, who is also a former Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice in the erstwhile Kufuor government, was speaking on Oman FM, an Accra based radio station recently.

“The recruitment was done in the Tema Port too and all these happened during the transition period,” he said.

According to him, it was because of this last minute employment that NPP supporters decided to besiege some public institutions, threatening to eject the workers.

The former MP indicated that the NPP administration would use legal means to review all the last minute recruitment of workers into the public sector by the NDC.

He emphasized: “The new administration will not hesitate to ensure that those who are not qualified but are recruited based on their party affiliations with NDC are removed from the government’s pay roll.

NPP will not allow the past government to tie its hands at the back.”

Osei Kwame Prempeh, therefore, urged supporters of the NPP to exercise restraint as President Akufo-Addo was still in the process of putting his team of ministers together for effective and efficient running of the country.

Concluding, he said: “The new ministers and government would fully look into the issues and sack anybody who ought to be sacked legally.”
