One of the sons of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Sekou Nkrumah, has called on Former President John Dramani Mahama, to step down from contesting the flagbearer position of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Nkrumah further advised the former Ghanaian leader to show leadership as the NDC searches for a new leader who will represent the hope of many Ghanaians who want a corruption free government that will champion their aspirations and a better quality of life for the ordinary Ghanaian.

In a post on his facebook wall dated October 29, 2018, which has since gone viral, Mr. Nkrumah said “JM should step down and show true leadership and love for NDC! The 2016 massive defeat was the result of the poor performance in power. It is time the NDC elect a new leader who will represent the hope of many Ghanaians who want a corruption free government that will champion their aspirations and a better quality of life for the ordinary folks”.

He added “You served the rest of Professor Mills’ term, plus yours! That is long enough, so I don’t get the obsession with power! And it is not like you performed well. You could not address corruption within your government! And the quality of life for the ordinary Ghanaian did not change for the better. So please just drop out from the NDC presidential race and enjoy your political retirement!”

Continuing from where he left of in another post dated Tuesday, October 30, 2018, Sekou Nkrumah reminded delegates of the NDC to be mindful of the choice the made in 2007 in the person of the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills who won power for them but could not complete his full tenure in office.

“Do the NDC delegates remember when they voted for a dead man walking against all advice that Prof. was very sick and could no longer run for a second term? Yes Prof had the right to contest, and yes those delegates had the right to vote for whoever they wanted to vote for. And yes Prof won the contest massively, but in the end the truth stood tall! And as predicted Prof. could not even finish his first term! Before the 2008 elections Prof. was sick, but the situation then was so complex for him to step down in the last minute! But 2012 was different, Prof had every excuse to step down before then! All I am saying here is that even if the delegates vote massively for Mahama and he wins, in the long run he will hurt the NDC even worse than in 2016”, he stressed in his post.

The NDC, he added in another post also dated Tuesday, October 30, 2018, is “bigger than Professor Mills and bigger than Mahama, please let’s move on!”.

Should Mr. Mahama decide to continue the journey of contesting the flagbearer position of the NDC, it will be his third time having led the umbrella family to the 2012 and 2016 general elections.
