Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu has paid the court fines for the release of 10 petty offenders at the Cape Coast prison annex.

The inmates were fined for different crimes but could not pay the court fines leading to their imprisonment by the Judicial system of Ghana.

Atsu, who is known for his humanitarian work, earlier in October, came to the rescue of a mother and her two daughters, who were jailed for three months for stealing leftover corn worth GHC 10.00, equivalent to $2.00.

The Ghanaian international has also pledged to pay for the release of 40 more from prison by the end of December 2018.

The 26 year old winger is enjoying an improbable renaissance in the English Premiership after a slow start to the 2018/2019 season.
