Newmont Ahafo North to rebuild Bomaa Hospital emergency centre, MP says

Newmont Gold Limited’s Ahafo North operation is to reconstruct the Emergency Centre at Bomaa Hospital in the Tano North Constituency, Member of Parliament Dr Gideon Boako has announced.

Dr Boako said the mining company had given assurances that it would support the redevelopment of the facility after discussions with Newmont Gold Limited – Ahafo North’s General Manager.

He disclosed the plans in a Facebook post on Friday, 28 August 2026, following talks about development projects in the constituency.

The meeting followed requests made by Dr Boako to Newmont last year. Among those proposals was a call for the company to extend some of its charitable interventions to communities beyond the areas in which it operates directly.

“Of particular interest was how the company could extend its charitable gestures to communities outside its operational territories, such as Bomaa,” Dr Boako said.

According to the MP, Newmont has now committed to giving the Bomaa Hospital Emergency Centre a facelift through the construction of a new facility.

A temporary arrangement has also been agreed with the hospital’s management to ensure emergency services can continue while the work is carried out.

Dr Boako said a new Female Ward he had built for Bomaa Hospital would be commissioned and used as the Emergency Centre during the construction period.

“As a stop-gap measure, I have arranged with the hospital management to commission the new Female Ward I have built for them and use it as the Emergency Centre, to pave the way for the construction of the new Emergency Centre,” he said.

The MP also announced that Newmont had agreed to build a modern toilet facility for Yamfo Anglican Senior High School.

In addition, the company is expected to carry out improvement work on the Yamfo–Atudurobesa–Rubi–Beposo road. The project is intended to improve access and make the route more suitable for residents and other road users.

The discussions between Dr Boako and Newmont also included wider infrastructure and community concerns across the constituency.

Those issues covered road safety on the newly constructed section of the Sunyani–Kumasi road between Tanoso and Terchire. Compensation matters affecting farmers and resettlement issues were also considered.

Dr Boako expressed his appreciation for Newmont Ahafo North’s contribution to development in the area and the opportunities he said the company continued to provide for local people.

“I am grateful to Newmont Ahafo North for the many opportunities they continue to deliver to our people,” Dr Boako said.
