President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has been named the new head of CAF West Zone B (WAFU B), following the resignation of Ghana FA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.
Gusau’s appointment comes with overwhelming support from member associations and is aimed at maintaining stability while bringing fresh momentum to the region’s football development efforts. The move marks a significant step in reinforcing regional cooperation within the West African Football Union.
Kurt Okraku vacated the position after his elevation to CAF's Executive Council and his subsequent appointment as CAF's 2nd Vice President. He cited the difficulty of managing dual high-level roles as the main reason for stepping down from the WAFU B leadership.
Gusau, who has been president of the NFF since 2022, brings with him a wealth of administrative experience. His background includes serving as:
- Chairman of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria
- Chairman of the Zamfara State Football Association
- A member of various CAF committees, notably in youth football.
His rise to the top of WAFU B is seen as a move that could strengthen Nigeria's leadership role in West African football while also enhancing efforts to develop youth football, improve competitions, and foster unity among member nations.
With the region boasting vibrant footballing nations such as Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso, Gusau’s tenure will be closely watched as he seeks to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor.
