Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has set his sights on the Unity Cup final against Jamaica after leading the Super Eagles to a hard-fought 2-1 win over arch-rivals Ghana on Wednesday night at the GTech Community Stadium.

The Super Eagles got off to a flying start with first-half goals from Cyriel Dessers and an own goal by Ghanaian defender Razak Simpson, giving Chelle's men a commanding lead.

Although Ghana responded with a second-half strike from Brandon Thomas-Asante, Nigeria held firm to book their place in the May 31 final.

Speaking after the match, Chelle, who recently took over from Jose Peseiro, praised the resilience of his squad and laid out the plan for the final.

“We just played one game, so we’ll try to prepare for the second,” he said. “Jamaica is a great team with great staff and great players. It will be a great game. We’ll focus on two or three training sessions and take it from there.”

The former Mali coach also shed light on the tactical identity he is introducing to the Super Eagles setup.

“My philosophy is to apply high pressure on the pitch, but the system is quite demanding for the players. We need to work on it and improve,” Chelle explained. “The first half was great, but in the second half, the players were tired. Still, I’m proud of them. It was a tough battle, and we deserved the victory.”

With the win, Nigeria advances to the Unity Cup final, where they will clash with a strong Jamaican side.

Ghana, meanwhile, will face Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff on Saturday.
