Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has sparked debate after claiming that the Nigerian music industry would be boring without his presence.
The singer made the assertion in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, writing, “Imagine no Davido… would have been boring AF.” The comment drew mixed reactions online, with some users accusing the artiste of overstating his impact on the industry.
This is not the first time Davido has described himself as central to the growth and excitement of Nigerian music. In an interview with Apple Music in April 2025, he claimed the industry went quiet when he took a break from social media in November 2022 following the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.
According to Davido, both fans and critics urged him to return during the three-month hiatus, underscoring what he described as his influence on the scene.
Davido rose to prominence in 2011 with the release of his hit single Dami Duro, at a time when the Nigerian music industry was experiencing the emergence of a new wave of Afrobeats artistes led by Wizkid.
More recently, veteran music producer Samkleff suggested that Davido’s rise introduced rivalry and toxicity into the industry, arguing that relations among artistes were more cordial before his emergence.
