The Ministry of Education has condemned a false publication on the Opera News platform that wrongly attributed comments to the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, suggesting he had called for a 13th-month salary for teachers to boost their welfare and motivation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 17, the Ministry clarified that the Minister did not make such remarks at any public forum, policy engagement or official meeting.

The Ministry described the report, which claimed the comments were made at a policy forum in Accra, as a deliberate falsehood intended to mislead the public.

It stressed that while the government remains committed to improving the welfare and working conditions of teachers and other education sector workers through structured dialogue and sustainable policy interventions, no proposal for a 13th-month salary has been announced or advocated by the Minister.

The Ministry has therefore called on Opera News to immediately retract the publication and issue an unqualified public apology to Mr. Iddrisu and the Ministry of Education.

Members of the public have also been urged to disregard the report and refrain from sharing unverified information that could create unnecessary confusion. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparent communication and assured that all official updates on education policies will be communicated through authorised and credible channels.
