Captain of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Amos Frimpong has said that there is no pressure on the team ahead of the upcoming Ghana Premier League season which commences on December 18.

Speaking to Ashh FM sports, the versatile defender claimed he and his team mates do not feel as much pressure as being speculated. He however emphasised that expectations for the Porcupine Warriors remains as high is typical of a club of Kotoko's calibre.

The Kumasi based side failed to win a single trophy last season while finishing fifth on the league table much to the disappointment of the club fans.

However the defender who played in all defensive positions for the club revealed that their performance last season does not necessarily stimulate pressure on the playing body but brings about a sense of urgency to do more among the players.

"I will say there is no pressure on us but one has to know that playing for a team of Kotoko's status comes with high expectations and we are aware of that. You have to put in your mind as a Kotoko player that this is a result-oriented team and the fans expect a win in every game" he said

"There is no pressure on us but we know the kind of team we are playing for and the type of results the fans expect so we have to try as much as possible to please the fans so they put their weight behind us next season. he added

The captain further revealed that the relationship between the playing body and the club's new management headed by Dr Kwame Kyei of the Unity Group of Companies is a smooth one.

According to him, the arrival of  the new management have given reasons to hope for the best so far.

"So far the relationship between us and the new management is smooth and with the arrival of Dr Kyei we have seen reasons to believe that we can achieve the targets we have set for ourselves as a club if we work together as a unit" he said of the club's new management

The club dissolved the Opoku Nti-led management at the end of the 2015/16 premier league season while life patron of the club Otumfou Osei Tutu II gave the new team headed by Dr Kyei a three year ultimatum to "steer the club to higher heights"
