None of the NPP aspirants is credible- NDC communicator

A member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Abdulai Sakra Alhassan, has questioned the credibility of all five aspirants contesting the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Friday, January 2, Mr. Alhassan said the NPP’s failure to clearly project a leading contender points to what he described as a credibility deficit among the aspirants.
According to him, if any of the five candidates were sufficiently strong, the party would by now have rallied behind a clear frontrunner. He argued that none of the aspirants possesses the credibility required to lead the country.
“None of them is credible enough. Whoever comes out is likely to lead Ghana. And for me, where I’m sitting, out of the five, there’s no credible candidate,” he added.
Mr. Alhassan also dismissed claims that the NDC is uneasy about the possibility of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerging as the NPP’s flagbearer ahead of the 2028 elections. He said Dr. Bawumia’s previous electoral performance does not pose a threat to the NDC.
He further suggested that Dr. Bawumia should consider withdrawing from active politics, arguing that he would be unable to match any candidate the NDC presents in future elections.
“Let us be clear, for me, if I were Bawumia, or anyone around him who advises him, I would tell him that he should just retire from politics because he can never, in any way, match any of the NDC’s candidates,” he stated.
When asked whether any of the five NPP aspirants could compete effectively against the NDC’s potential candidates, Mr. Alhassan responded in the negative, stating that even collectively, they would fall short.
Despite his criticism of the aspirants, Mr. Alhassan claimed that the NPP leadership has already settled on Dr. Bawumia as its preferred candidate. He alleged that party structures and internal processes are being used to support the former Vice President’s bid.
“The reason why they are even going for votes this particular month is all orchestrated to support one particular candidate, which is Bawumia. They want him to win, no matter how,” he said.
Mr. Alhassan maintained that, in his view, none of the five aspirants stands out as a credible option to lead Ghana.
