The Member of Parliament for Tempane and Minister of State for Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has expressed frustration over the deplorable state of roads in her constituency, revealing that not a single kilometer of road has been tarred.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, September 16, she described the lack of road infrastructure as a significant challenge for residents.
“Sadly—and I keep on saying—it is very sad because Tempane does not even have one kilometer of road tarred,” she said.
The MP highlighted that the constituency lacks basic feeder roads, forcing residents to rely on footpaths. The situation becomes especially difficult during the rainy season, when many communities are cut off due to washouts and impassable paths.
“We don’t even have feeder roads currently. We just have footpaths. We’ve been managing it like that. For instance, this is the rainy season—we have a lot of washouts that make it difficult for people to pass. The road network is really that bad. Not even one kilometer,” she lamented.
Despite the dire situation, Madam Akanvariba assured that efforts are being made to address the issue. She revealed that she is in discussions with the Feeder Roads Engineer, and the Roads Ministry has received estimates for some of the necessary roads.
“I am currently in talks with the Feeder Roads Engineer. He has brought some estimates to the Roads Ministry. So at least maybe by the time they will approve some of the roads, we are likely to get some of the roads worked on,” she added.
Tempane, located in the Upper East Region, remains one of many rural constituencies grappling with underdeveloped infrastructure.
