The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says all arrangements are firmly in place for its presidential primary slated for January 31, 2026, assuring members and the general public of a smooth and credible process.
Chairman of the party’s Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, stated that the NPP’s internal electoral structures are fully operational and working as expected.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, January 22, Mr. Owusu disclosed that the party is working closely with key state institutions to guarantee a successful election.
“We are very set. We are also relying on two state agencies. The police have assured us that they are heavily prepared and ready for the day. The Electoral Commission is also fully set, with district officers assigned to supervise each polling station,” he said.
He further revealed that ballot printing is currently ongoing, with representatives of all five presidential aspirants present to observe the process and ensure transparency in line with agreed procedures.
“So beyond any human failings, I can confidently say we are 100 percent set,” Mr. Owusu added.
His assurance follows the signing of a peace pact earlier the same day by the five aspirants, committing themselves to a peaceful, transparent, and credible contest.
The ceremony, held in Accra, underscored the party’s resolve to avoid internal tensions before, during, and after the primary.
Addressing the gathering, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo urged party members and aspirants to place unity above personal ambition, reminding them that the NPP’s strength lies in collective purpose rather than individual interests.
The aspirants contesting the flagbearer position are former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong; Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong; Bosomtwe MP Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former NPP General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyepong.
Party leadership has reiterated calls for all contestants to respect the outcome of the primary and rally behind the eventual winner, stressing that unity will be crucial to the NPP’s fortunes ahead of the 2028 general elections.
