Flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will ballot for their positions on the ballot paper today, October 10, 2025, ahead of the party’s presidential primary slated for January 31, 2026.

The National Elections Committee will oversee the exercise at the NPP headquarters in Accra, where all five approved aspirants or their representatives are expected to participate.

Speaking on Thursday, October 9, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed that only candidates who have fully complied with the party’s guidelines will be eligible to take part in the balloting.

“All candidates who have met the guidelines, as issued on July 29, and complied with them, will be balloting today. Nobody is going to be excused from any specific guideline of the party,” Mr. Mohammed stated.

He explained that the process aligns strictly with the party’s constitution and that every aspirant must respect it.
“These guidelines are grounded in the constitution, and every member who wants to lead the party into the 2028 elections must abide by it,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Communications Director for Kwabena Agyepong’s campaign, Paul Abdul Rahman Issah Dowuona, has reaffirmed that Mr. Agyepong remains in the race despite controversy surrounding a GH₵4 million development fee.

“At vetting, he was asked, and he made his position clear, and even at the vetting, he committed that if it were about a development fee, he would contribute substantially to the development of the party when the need arises. His issue has always been that it shouldn’t be a prerequisite for contesting the flagbearership of the party,” he said.

He reiterated that the issue is being dealt with internally and should not be a matter for public speculation.

Currently, five aspirants have declared their intent to contest the NPP flagbearer slot. They are:

  • Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

  • Kennedy Agyapong

  • Dr. Bryan Acheampong

  • Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

  • Kwabena Agyepong

The outcome of Friday’s balloting will determine the order in which their names appear on the ballot paper for the January 2026 presidential primary.
