New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency chairpersons converged in Kofidua over the weekends to inaugurate the 'Officers Welfare fund'.

This is aimed to mobilize resources to improve the welfare of the constituency executives of the party.

The Fund will take contributions from party executives to meet their own future welfare needs so that none would depend on national executives or the government for such needs.

The welfare is to serve as a special purpose vehicle to create a dedicated fund to address challenges at the base of the party to reduce overdependency on national executives and the Presidency.

Furthermore, it has been structured to be financially sustainable to span many governments to help strengthen the base of the party.

The National Chairman of the ruling party, Frederick Worsemao Blay, who inaugurated the welfare scheme noted that the scheme has always been part of the NPP tradition.

Speaking at the event, he said strong and sustainable financial resources are critical to the success of the NPP, especially at a time when they are seeking to “break the 8”.

He said as officers of the party, they must put Ghana first to build a sustainable future.

The interim National Chairman of the NPP Constituency Officers Welfare, Dr. Akyea Darkwa who is also the Asuogyaman Constituency Chairman, explained that as chairpersons, they have come together to establish the Fund to help them attend to the needs of the party rather than relying on the presidency for that provisions

"We decided that there are some of the challenges that we can solve ourselves so why don’t we do it. so we solicited ideas from the Constituency chairmen for this welfare fund,” he said.

The Vice President Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia said in a speech delivered on his behalf by Fred Oware, a former National Vice Chairman of the NPP that good governance and unity can retain the party in power beyond two terms.

He pledged his full support to the Constituency welfare.
