Confusion has rocked the Amasaman New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Primaries as an injuction has been placed on the elections.

This was confirmed by the chairman for the constituency Michael Ofori Asante despite every material being set for the elections to go ahead.

Personnel of the Ghana Police had to swiftly intervened to prevent violence when the official of the Electoral Commission insisted on carrying on with the elections despite the injunction been served.

The injunction was placed on the polls by an aggrieved aspirant one Rockson Adu Boahen.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Ofori Asante said he had been directed by the party’s Director of Elections to suspend the elections in the constituency.

“The election in Amasaman is not happening because one of the aspirants who was disqualified has placed an interlocutory injunction on the election… Earlier, a copy of the injuction was placed at the regional office and somebody signed on behalf of the regional chairman. I had a call from the National Director of Elections that we should hold on with the elections.”

The  court  case is expected to heard  on October 11, 2019.

Surprisingly one of the aspirants Clement Wilkison urged his supporters to stay at the polling centre till the set time polls will close.

“We are going to vote today. I want you to pick your phone, call your people who are not yet here to come and vote. We haven’t heard anything from the national office,” he told supporters,

The Electoral Commission also said it hasn’t been served with any notice of an injunction.
