Bawa Majeed, the Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has announced a significant policy change regarding the Accra Sports Stadium, stating that it will no longer host social events.

This measure is designed to ensure that the facility remains in optimal condition for national team matches.

The decision follows a recent situation in which Ghana faced a scramble to secure a venue for its AFCON qualifier against Sudan.

With the Baba Yara Sports Stadium suspended by CAF, the government had to expedite the approval process for the Accra Sports Stadium.

Majeed emphasized the NSA’s commitment to prioritizing sports at the venue, declaring, “We will designate a facility for the national team, which will remain available to them whenever they are called to service.

We will ensure that the facility is protected. Nothing else but sports will take place at the facility,” he stated during an interview with Akoma FM.

He further added that the Accra Sports Stadium has received permission from both CAF and FIFA to operate strictly as a national facility, indicating that no extracurricular activities will be allowed.

Looking ahead, Ghana's national team is set to face Angola away and Niger at home next month in the final two qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
