The National Union of Ghana Students(NUGS) has  poured  scorn on "false  publication" by citifmonline  over  suspension of its AASU representative, demanding an apology from the news agency.

The Union has also threatened to take legal actions against the  operators and managers of the citifm news portal should they fail to remove the said publication and apologize to the union "with immediate effect."

Citfmonline on Thursday 22 Dec, 2016 made  a report claiming  NUGS had suspended Fred Awaah  as its representative to the All African Students Union (AASU), at  a press conference addressed  by "President of the Union, Julian M. Cobinal."

According to the publication, the press conference accused  Fred Awaah, who is also the Secretary General of AASU,  of   "fraudulently inviting imposters as representatives of national executives at the on-going congress in Khartoum, Sudan."

But in a statement, signed by the President, Luqman Abubakari, the union has  refuted the  claim  of suspending Mr Fred Awaah, adding that  "No serious organization or union shall suspend an elected executive without proof of vote of no confidence passed,or committing a crime punishable by law."

" The leadership of the national union of Ghana students(NUGS) wish to bring to the fore of all students and the entire Ghanaian populace of a false publication on citifmonline news portal dated ,Thursday 22 Dec, 2016 ., the statement read.

"Aside its false content, we would like to caution operators and managers of the citifm news portal to remove the said publication and apologize to the union with immediate effect else the leadership of NUGS will not relent on suing the agency at the law court for defaming and bringing the name of the union into disrepute."

In a later interview with ghanaguardian.com,  the Coordinating Secretary of NUGS, Yiadom Boakye Emmanuel,  chided  citifmonline for not seeking "much clarification" on the issue before making the publication.

"We really don't know why they [citifmonline] didn't seek much clarification before making that publication," he said.

"If this is not checked, it is going to create diaffection and apathy for the union, making it very difficult to fight for students interest and welfare as we have been doing"

He has further assured all students that Luqman-led NUGS is on course  and will not allow itself to be distracted by anyone and  has therefore thrown down the gauntlet to any individual or group who has issues with them  to go to court.

PRESS STATEMENT

Sat,24th Dec,2016 *

NATIONAL UNION OF GHANA STUDENTS (NUGS)*

*RE: NUGS SUSPENDS AASU REPRESENTATIVE*

We bring you greetings from the national union of Ghana students President, LUQMAN ABUBAKARI who's currently in Sudan participating in the AASU conference.

The leadership of the national union of Ghana students (NUGS) wish to bring to the fore of all students and the entire Ghanaian populace of a false publication on citifmonline news portal dated ,Thursday 22 Dec, 2016 . Aside its false content, we would like to caution operators and managers of the citifm news portal to remove the said publication and apologize to the union with immediatel effect else the leadership of NUGS will not relent on suing the agency at the law court for defaming and bringing the name of the union into disrepute.

No serious organization or union shall suspend an elected executive without proof of vote of no confidence passed,or committing a crime punishable by law. Mr Fred Awaah remains the AASU rep to Ghana and AASU secretary general in as much as he's preparing to hand over.

For the records, the LUQMAN led NUGS have made all attempts to settle the NUGS impasse in court which is the right procedure but the so called pepper running okro mouthed legitimate executives keeps running, dodging and avoiding court summons but hide behind some rented press just to ruin our hard fought efforts in fighting for the interest and welfare of Ghanaian students. *

_Attached is a writ of summons issued by the Accra circuit/high court of justice with suit number number GJ1544/2016 on Friday 10/11/16 _

* We chased the so called legitimate around the nations capital to GIMPA just for them to prove themselves in court but till now, they keep running away from it. We plead with them to walk their talk and be men of their words and accept the writ and meet us in court or better shut up.

We shall not watch NUGS die under our reign hence we are going to do everything legally possible within our capacity to protect and preserve the hard earned name and image of the union.. We hereby entreat the media to disregard any publication, release, statement or memo coming from NUGS not endorsed or counter signed by LUQMAN ABUBAKARI as NUGS president.

The constitution of Ghana frowns on this, and as such, punishable by law so anyone who thinks or have issues with the LUQMAN led NUGS can go to court and stop hiding behind media to create disaffection and apathy for the union in the face of Ghanaians and the international community at large.

*ALUTA CONTINUA !!! VICTORIA ASCERTA !!

* Long live AASU

Long live NUGS

Long live Ghana
