Ghanaian rapper, Obibini, has voiced his disappointment with the state of the country’s music industry, describing it as "fake" and biased against genuine talent.
Speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie, the rapper accused key industry players of lacking sincerity, claiming that their actions have stifled the growth of Ghanaian rap and sidelined artistes like himself.
“The industry is fake, and I don’t know what they expect from an artiste before giving them their due,” he said.
The rapper, known for his lyrical depth and clever wordplay, expressed frustration over what he sees as a lack of recognition for his contributions to Ghanaian hip-hop.
He revealed that despite receiving two nominations in the Best Rap Performance category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, he has never taken home a trophy.
“I have had two nominations but I just feel like it is a way they just want to tap me on the back and go like ‘we see you’. But I mean it’s quite an insult for someone like me to be around now and then no award has been awarded to me. Because this is Obibini we are talking about. I am the Shakespeare of this thing,” he said.
Obibini, a former signee of Zylofon Music, is known for tracks such as The Statement, Let Me Know, Ahye Me featuring KiDi, The Dream, Balenciagas, Get A Life, and Yes Dada.
He recently released a new single titled Have You Ever.
