Obuasi SHTS Closed Temporarily as Police Probe Assault on Headmaster
The Obuasi Senior High Technical School (O’SHTS) has been temporarily closed to pave the way for police investigations into the assault on the school’s headmaster, Abdulai Zakaria, following unrest on campus.
The decision was announced by the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Faustilove Appiah Kannin, during a visit to the school, where she explained that academic work could not continue while security personnel remain deployed to maintain law and order.
According to the MCE, the closure is intended to create a safe environment for investigators to carry out their work without disruption.
The incident occurred after some students allegedly attacked the headmaster over claims that he had buried a foetus on the school premises, sparking unrest and acts of vandalism on campus.
Mrs Appiah Kannin said the school would remain closed until the Ghana Police Service concludes its investigations, after which authorities will announce a date for students to return.
The Ashanti Regional Director of Education has also confirmed the temporary closure, stating that the decision was taken to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident while safeguarding students, staff and school property.
Police investigations into the assault and the circumstances surrounding the alleged discovery are ongoing.
