The incumbent member of Parliament for the Odododiodio constituency and parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has been arrested by the police at Modak Hotel where he was lodging.

There has been no reasons for his arrest but he has been bundled away in a police van together with about some other 10 persons who are believed to be supporters of the NDC.

He was in the said hotel with his family allegedly for safe keeping before he was arrested from the hotel.

Scores of NDC supporters have besieged the hotel room where the Odododiodio constituency was lodging.

The party supporters have been chanting and questioning why a sitting member of parliament should be arrested for no offence done.

Lawyer for the detained MP Lesley Anim has confirmed in an interview with the press that his client has been escorted to the Central Police Station.

“I am not sure about the number but the boys working on his collation … about four or five of them have been arrested,” Lawyer Anim said about the arrest made in the early hours of Tuesday.

“We are going to the police station to make sure we sort this out. He had been attacked and there had been gunshots and they are accusing him of firing the guns. But it’s total falsehood and we are going to fight it.

“He can’t be intimidated on an election day and we are going to make sure that justice is done.” he added.
