A former communications minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has stated that the abysmal performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will make the 2020 elections an easy one for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In remarks passed after the NDC elected former president John Mahama to lead it into the 2020 elections, Dr. Boamah, explained that the party is ready to overcome the challenges that led to its defeat in the 2020 elections.

“Because 2016 was unfavourable in the barracks, it stands to reason that in 2020 it is going to be the same, but it is not going to be the same.

And we believe that the reason it is not going to be the same is hinged on a few issues,” the former minister noted.

For that reason, he went on, the NPP’s poor performance and the pragmatic programmes the NDC will offer Ghanaians have fuelled his optimism with regard to the upcoming elections.

Mahama secured 213,487 votes representing 95.23% of the total votes cast during the NDC’s presidential primary on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

To Dr. Omane Boamah, Mahama’s victory must be a cause for excitement among Ghanaians.

“Ghanaians must be happy and confident that president Mahama is coming back to right the wrongs and restore this nation in the right direction,” he stated, per a Citinewsroom report.

He went on to say that Mahama is loved by his people and the party, and that explains why people called upon him to stage a comeback after his defeat in the 2016 elections.
