Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has shared insights into the enduring bond that has sustained her three-decade marriage, revealing that trust and mutual respect have been central to the relationship.

Speaking in an interview on the Afropolitan Podcast, the actress and philanthropist described her marriage to Matthew Ekeinde as one grounded in confidence, freedom and the absence of ego conflicts.

According to her, she has never had to confront her husband over infidelity during the 30 years they have been together.

“I’ve been married to him now 30 years. I’ve never fought over a girl,” she said, explaining that their relationship thrives on complete trust.

“He doesn’t disturb me. If I have to go to my work, I go to my work. I come back. He trusts me totally. I trust him.”

The mother of four also clarified her personal views on marriage and divorce, stressing that divorce is not an option for her, though she respects the choices of others.

“Divorce is not an option for me. It doesn’t mean it’s not an option for you. Let’s get that straight. I’m not against divorce,” she explained.

She emphasised that every marriage is unique, noting that relationships differ based on the individuals involved.

“My marriage can never be the same thing as your marriage. No two marriages are the same because no two persons are the same,” she said.

Omotola explained that relationships often involve different circumstances and challenges, including rebuilding trust in situations where it has been broken.

For her, however, the deep familiarity built over decades together makes their bond difficult to disrupt.

“I’ve been with this person for 30 years, since I was 18,” she added.

The award-winning actress also praised her husband’s personality, describing him as selfless and free of ego, qualities she believes have contributed significantly to the peace and longevity of their marriage.

With more than three decades in the film industry, Omotola has starred in several notable productions, including Blood Sisters, Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story and Alter Ego.
