A Metro Mass Transit bus traveling from Bunkpurugu to Tamale came under attack by armed robbers in the early hours of Friday, October 10, 2025, leaving one passenger dead and three others injured.
The incident occurred around 2:27 a.m. on the Duuklotuk–Nakpanduri highway, when the gunmen reportedly tried to stop the bus using torchlights. Eyewitnesses said the driver, sensing danger, refused to stop, which led the attackers to open fire on the moving vehicle.
“The armed robbers didn’t block the road with any object. They stopped the bus with torchlights, and when the driver refused to stop, they started shooting at the back of the bus. The place where it happened was not a community-based location,” an eyewitness recounted.
The deceased and the injured were immediately rushed to the Faith Community Hospital in Nakpanduri for medical care.
Some surviving passengers expressed concern over the recurrence of dawn robberies on the stretch, blaming the early-morning departure schedules of buses from Bunkpurugu to Tamale for putting travelers at greater risk of attacks and ambushes.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
