One person has been confirmed dead and 37 others injured following a serious road accident involving a passenger bus and a truck at Mankrong on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 11, 2026, when a Zhong Tong 40-seater bus with registration number AS 7022-21 collided with a Man Diesel truck (GW 3969-U).
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a rescue team from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station was alerted at 6:59 a.m. and arrived at the scene within eight minutes. Fire officers worked swiftly to extricate the deceased from the mangled bus and provide emergency assistance to the injured.
A total of 38 passengers — 21 men and 17 women — were involved, many of whom were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment, while others had been taken there by bystanders before emergency teams arrived.
Eyewitnesses said the bus was travelling at a high speed when it slammed into the truck, leaving its front portion badly crushed. The truck, however, suffered only minor damage, and its occupants escaped unhurt.
After completing rescue operations, GNFS officers cleared the wreckage, restored traffic flow on the busy highway, and secured the area to prevent further incidents. The team left the scene at 8:57 a.m. and returned to base at 9:52 a.m.
The Ghana National Fire Service reiterated its commitment to rapid response and professional emergency services to protect lives on Ghana’s roads.
