A year after the burial of beloved Nigerian comic legend Mr. Ibu, his wife Stella Maris Okafor has shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, stirring emotions among fans and industry colleagues.
Marking the first anniversary of his burial, Stella posted touching videos of herself and their three children, visibly mourning the absence of their patriarch.
Borrowing lyrics from Michael Bolton’s emotional ballad “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,” she captured the family’s lingering grief and the irreplaceable void left behind.
“One year you were laid to rest. We miss you so much. Continue to rest in peace, Amen,” she wrote in one of the posts.
In another poignant clip, their children are seen praying fervently against the spirit of premature death, underscored by Stella’s somber caption:
“It is well. My children, it is only God that we have now.”
The tribute has resonated with many, triggering an outpouring of sympathy and support from fans and Nollywood colleagues who continue to mourn the loss of the iconic actor.
Mr. Ibu, born John Okafor, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 after a long battle with illness. His health struggles culminated in the amputation of one leg in late 2023, a development that shocked fans and raised public concern.
Laid to rest on June 28, 2024, in his hometown of Amuri, Enugu State, Mr. Ibu's funeral drew crowds of mourners, including public figures, fellow actors, and longtime admirers.
Celebrated for his unique comic timing and unforgettable performances, particularly in the Mr. Ibu film series, John Okafor remains a towering figure in the history of Nigerian cinema. His legacy continues to live on through his works and the enduring love of his family and fans.
