Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has included five debutants in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming Unity Cup 2025 in London.
The newcomers are Joseph Tetteh Anang of St. Patrick’s Athletic in Ireland, Abdul Aziz Issah of Barcelona Atlètic, Aaron Essel of North Texas SC, Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, and Mohammed Gadafi Fuseini of Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise.
Each of the five brings a unique skill set to the national team setup, and their selection reflects the technical team’s long-term vision for the Black Stars.
Goalkeeper Joseph Tetteh Anang, who previously represented England at the U-20 level in 2019, has been on Ghana’s radar for years after spells with West Ham United, Stevenage, and Derby County.
Midfielders Abdul Aziz Issah and Aaron Essel, both products of the Ghana Premier League, were key members of the Black Satellites squad at the recent U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Issah now plays in Spain with Barcelona’s B team, while Essel is developing his game in the United States with North Texas SC.
Caleb Yirenkyi has been a standout performer for FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark, and Mohammed Gadafi Fuseini has been making strides in the Belgian Pro League with Union Saint-Gilloise.
The five debutants will join the rest of the squad in London this week to begin preparations for the four-nation Unity Cup, which features Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.
