The scheduled meeting between the overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, and other stakeholders has been cancelled.

The parties were summoned to the Manhyia Palace for the meeting today, Thursday, 25 October 2018, in connection with the ongoing impasse which led to the indefinite closure of the university.

It was, however, called off at the eleventh hour.

It is unclear what the reason for the cancellation is.

The Asantehene who is the Chancellor of KNUST, was to meet the parties to  gather details about what happened and find a solution to the problem.

Students of the school on Monday, 22 October 2018, led by the SRC, marched against what they described as oppression from school authorities and unfair treatment as a result of unwarranted assault on their colleagues by some security officers.

The students as part of the riot vandalised school properties.

The students burnt car tyres, destroyed windows and doors of some buildings and blocked some roads on campus to prevent cars from moving.
