The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has set Sunday, November 30, and Monday, December 1, 2025, for what is expected to be the final phase of mediation in the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

A statement from the Manhyia Palace on Monday, November 10, described the two-day session as a crucial step in Otumfuo’s ongoing efforts to secure lasting peace between the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions.

The Asantehene commended both sides for their cooperation in previous engagements and urged continued restraint as the dialogue enters its concluding stage.

“His Majesty praises both sides for their positive approach to the mediation so far and appeals to all concerned to avoid any actions likely to affect the progress towards a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict,” the statement read.

Otumfuo’s peace efforts began in April 2025, when he met representatives from both groups between April 28 and April 30 to reopen dialogue after years of tension. The discussions resumed on May 13, following a brief suspension, during which the Asantehene observed that the process had brought a period of relative calm to the area.

In recent months, the Bawku municipality has faced sporadic violence, loss of lives, and curfews as authorities work to contain unrest that has disrupted livelihoods and strained community ties.

By setting the final mediation dates, Otumfuo demonstrates his continued determination to guide both factions toward consensus and lasting peace.

His leadership has earned widespread praise from traditional rulers, government officials, and peace advocates, who view his intervention as a symbol of unity, wisdom, and national reconciliation.
