Otumfuo urges business leaders to uphold integrity and humility

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on Ghanaian business executives to prioritise integrity, honesty and humility in corporate leadership, stressing that sustainable businesses are built on trust.
Speaking at the Ghana Business Leaders Conclave held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, the Asantehene said ethical leadership remains critical to national development and long-term business success.
According to him, the foundation of business has historically been trust, adding that integrity should not only be seen as a moral principle but as a practical standard reflected in the conduct of leaders, especially when they are unmonitored, in positions of power, or faced with opportunities for profit.
Otumfuo outlined six core values of integrity — honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage — describing them as universal principles that align strongly with Ghanaian cultural values.
He further cautioned business leaders against engaging in unethical practices such as tax evasion, dishonesty and the exploitation of workers, warning that unethical behaviour at the managerial level often spreads throughout an organisation.
The Asantehene also criticised arrogance and ego-driven leadership styles, urging executives to embrace humility and recognise that the success of institutions depends on collective effort rather than individual prominence.
While acknowledging the need for greater support for Ghana’s private sector, he stressed that businesses must also uphold strong ethical standards in order to maintain public confidence and achieve sustainable growth.
According to Otumfuo, ethical leadership and responsible business practices are essential to building resilient institutions capable of contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s economic development.
