Motorists experienced severe traffic delays on Tuesday morning after a fuel tanker overturned at Income Tax near the Ofankor Barrier on the busy Pokuase–Nsawam Highway.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 10, 2026, disrupting movement along a key stretch of the Accra–Kumasi Highway and affecting hundreds of commuters heading into the city.

Although the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, the overturned tanker partially blocked the roadway, forcing drivers to slow down and squeeze through a narrowed section of the highway.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and other emergency responders were deployed to the scene to direct traffic and prevent further accidents.

Authorities also secured the area because the tanker was carrying fuel, raising concerns about the potential risk of fire or explosion, which is common in accidents involving petroleum products.

As of mid-morning, efforts were still underway to clear the tanker from the road and restore normal traffic flow on the affected section of the highway.
