The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has directed the Ministry of Education to suspend the payment of responsibility allowances to eight staff members of the Lambussie District Education Directorate within the next 60 days, after uncovering payments made for no work done.
The order stems from findings in the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report, which revealed that over GH¢66,000 had already been paid to the staff, despite the irregularity still persisting.
Appearing before the Committee on Friday, August 22, the Directorate’s Accountant, Roland Boteek, admitted that part of the amount had been retrieved.
“So far, we have recovered GH¢10,000,” he confirmed, noting that the balance was yet to be accounted for.
The Committee has emphasized the need for the Ministry to take immediate steps to recover the outstanding amount and to prevent such financial irregularities in the future.
