Police have arrested a 23-year-old palm wine tapper, Kwaku Prince, popularly known as “On God,” for allegedly setting fire to the house of his girlfriend and her family, an incident that claimed multiple lives at Subri Nkwanta.

A relative of the victims, Poulina Tweneboah Koduah, said she received a distress call from family members reporting that the suspect had stormed their home searching for 19-year-old Benedicta Kudjo Felicia, a student of Queen Senior High School, who is believed to be his girlfriend.

According to Koduah, the family had repeatedly warned Prince to stay away from their home because Felicia was still in school and they did not approve of the relationship.

Despite the warnings, the suspect allegedly insisted he loved her and reportedly threatened to burn down the house if the family refused to allow him to marry her.

She said she later received another call indicating that the suspect had carried out the threat and set the house on fire.

Felicia sustained severe burns in the incident and was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital, where she later died. Their mother, 60-year-old Mary Andoh, also lost her life at the Anhwiaso Community Hospital.

Another victim, 22-year-old Dora Adoma Kudjo, who had been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment, was also later confirmed dead.

The suspect has since been arrested by the Ghana Police Service and is assisting with investigations.

Meanwhile, members of the bereaved family and community leaders are appealing to authorities to ensure that justice is served following the tragic incident.
