Thomas Partey will wear the number 18 jersey at Arsenal, ghanaguardian.com has gathered.

It marks a shift in brand for the Ghanaian as he has kept the number shirt for both his former Club and country.

The deputy skipper of the Black Stars completed a long awaited move to London from Athletico Madrid, after the Gunners triggered his 50 million pounds buyout clause.

He is the gunners biggest signing of the season with the FA Cup champions announcing his arrival minutes before deadline day came to an end.

He could make his debut against Leeds United at the Emirates after the international break.

Partey had been the priority target for Arsenal all summer but failed to negotiate with Athletico Madrid about a  fee as the rojiblancos did not want to loose their prized asset.

He has penned a long-term deal with the North London side and becomes the fourth signing after Willian, Gabriel and goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson.

The Ghana international came through the Atletico youth ranks since 2012 and went on to make 188 appearances, scoring 16 goals and assisting a further 12.

The 27-year-old midfielder in his time won both the Europa League and Super Cup in 2018, and was a Champions League runner-up in 2016.

Last season Partey made 46 appearances for Atletico, playing a key role in their third-placed finish in La Liga and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

During his career, he had successful loan spells in Spain with RCD Mallorca (2013/14) and UD Almeria (2014/15), and has made 29 international appearances for Ghana.
