German-born Ghanaian defender Patric Pfeiffer has sealed a permanent return to SV Darmstadt 98, rekindling a familiar chapter in his career after a challenging stint with Bundesliga side FC Augsburg.
The 25-year-old centre-back made just 12 appearances for Augsburg after his 2023 switch from Darmstadt and spent time out on loan at Young Boys in Switzerland and Magdeburg in Germany’s second tier.
Now, Pfeiffer is determined to rediscover his form in familiar surroundings.
“I'm very happy to be back here. For me, it feels a bit like coming home,” Pfeiffer shared warmly. "The discussions with Paul Fernie and Florian Kohfeldt were extremely good and confirmed to me that Darmstadt 98 is the right step for me, especially from a sporting perspective. I can hardly wait to get started with my old and new teammates.”
Darmstadt manager Paul Fernie expressed his delight over the return of a player who had always remained on the club’s radar.
"We’ve been in contact for some time and are happy that the signing has now worked out," said Fernie. "Despite many other options, Patric clearly wanted to return. He brings experience, and at 25, he’s still developing. His presence, aerial strength, and ability to build play from the back will be key for us."
Pfeiffer’s comeback adds solidity to Darmstadt’s defence as they look to rebuild after a tough spell in the top flight. The club and its fans will be hoping the Ghanaian defender's second stint is marked by stability, leadership—and perhaps a touch of redemption.
