Ladies and Gentlemen

The last three and half years have not been the best of times for Nigerians. our dear nation is in dire straits which requires an emergency intervention. Simple put these years have been the worst times in the annals of our democratic journey.

Our 'saint' of a president, General Muhammadu Buhari and his clueless, inept and incompetent administration of APC co-travelers have reduced political leadership to one of trial and error. The much trumpeted anti-corruption mantra on which he rode to power has turned out to be mere sloganeering rather than a strategic leadership policy. The fight against corruption touted by the APC administration has turned out to be a charade and a convenient political tool of repression, intimidation, harassment and witch hunt of political opponents. We are seeing our corruption fighting President romancing and dining with the most corrupt in our political history, while also unleashing his national security goons on opposition voices. The fight against corruption is being used to threaten and coerce the opposition to join the disgraced APC where they are beatified and their corrupt deeds written off. The APC is now a safe haven for corrupt public servants and discredited politicians. Never in the history of our country have we felt so betrayed and used by an elected political leadership. Practice of nepotism and cronyism is at its highest as the nation has been hijacked by a cabal which is ruling the nation for its creature comfort rather than the general good. We have witnessed several cases of state sponsored corruption in this administration - the open and brazen rigging of the electoral process in Ekiti, Osun and Edo States, the silence of government and her security agencies in the Gandujegate, the aiding of the former Minister of Finance to escape justice, after she was discovered to have obtained a dubious NYSC exemption certificate, the unremitted $94b oil proceeds to the CBN, the $25b NNPC contract scandal and several other scandals too numerous to mention. Firs t election whereby Nigeria can choice between two parties that have been held political office and can therefore be judged by the actual Next year years election therefore present the People Democratic Party,PDP, the chance to regain political power at the country We are all aware that it will not be an easy task. Almost four years of mismanagement of vision by achieved during the tenure of the PDp, economic mismanagement, a vicious political manipulation of our democratic institutions and processes added to the lack of vision by the Federal Government under the AP have eroded much of the gains archiving during the tenure of the PDP. Fortunately the stage has been set perfectly for us to do this. During the last general elections, the APC wooed the electorate with O promises and after nearly a full term in office, Nigerians are now better judges There is a saying that talk is cheap, and Nigerians have now discovered just how true that adage is. We of POP Ghana hold the firm and unwavering conviction that our presidential fiagbearer, Dr Atiku Abubakar is the perfect choice, not just to return our party to power at the federal level, but much more importantly, D put Nigeria back to work and greatness again. His track record of accomplishment both as a political leader, which culminated in his being ce President of the Federation for eight years, and as one of the most. On the economic front, the news is also not palatable. The economy has shrunk by 50% in three years, the naira lost it fight against international trade currency negatively affecting living standard in the nation forced with crumbling infrastructure whiles the provision of electricity which in the best of time was erratic is now not available most time. Capital fight has with industries closing shop as proprietors relocate other lands where governments take issues of sustainable job creation seriously leaving behind more unemployment Nigerians Internal insecurity is at its apogee as entire villages are overrun by purported forigen herdsmen and militias, who invade, maim, rape, kill residents while security president, a 5reouthern and ethnic cleansing in retired army general condones this genocide North Central states ore Kaduna, Nassarawa, Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Adamawa and Zamfara. The above pales into insignificance when compared to the international embarrassment the president is subjecting Nigerians to by the current fake attestation scandal. President Buhari was last Thursday presented with an attestation certificate, which is being considered as fake, as West African i Examination Council WAEC headquartered in Ghana had in 2015, declared that they have no records of Muhammadu Buhari in their data base of candidates who took the exams In 1961. The current attestation certificate presented by purported WAEC officials from the Nigeria office has no index number including other security features more so as the attestation cannot be traced to an original one. We call on WAEC to come clean on the true status of Muhammad Buhari's academic credentials with regards to this matter, as we are aware of APC's tendency of corrupting and compromising state and public institutions, in their quest to remain in power perpetuity. However we hold the firm belief that all is not lost as Nigerians will be presented with an opportunity to right this wrong when we go to the polls next year. There we will elect our leaders - patriotic, experienced and zealous ones at both the federal and state levels as well as the legislators in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, who will govern the country for the subsequent four years. The 2019 election, the most important and instructive since the commencement of the third democratic dispensation in 1999 will be the Successful entrepreneurs in the country is experience, providing proof that has experience, expertise, self-disciplan- exemplary and sheer vision, required to return Nigeria to its rapid economic growth and development on which it was put by PDP in 1999 before it was take of the path by the APC in 2015. We are fully confident that a Nigeria. under the guidance of Atiku Abubakar will work for the benefit of all Nigerians including even the most the-hard supporters of APC itself under his impending presidency we can look forward to the resumption accelerated economic growth, the benefits of which will be felt nationwide, and the reinstatement of social justice and national balance, which is crucial considering the potential fragmentations of the national polity. But first we have to not just win the upcoming elections, but also to make sure that we learn crucial lessons from the recent past. We cannot deny that we contributed to our last electoral defeat by our own conducts. So many years in power gave us the illusion of invincibility and this was coupled with complacency which too often than not replaced our desire to improve the lot of our country and our countrymen with the desire to simply improve our own personal circumstances. Simply put we fell victim to our own less than exemplary conduct. To be sure, it is evident that we have learnt a lot from that already. But it appears Nigeria's political class as a whole still has a lot to learn. The recent dramatic events involving the attempted blockade of the Senate leader is a vivid example of the overly heavy handed conduct of Nigerian politicians and their cohorts in other institutions of state. While we as Nigerians have unfortunately come to see such behavior as a normal, indeed entertaining aspect of our national politics, we fail to realize that such antics cost us the respect not just of the international community of which we are a part, but indeed also of our own compatriots, including the very voters who we expect to endorse our bid to lead the country forward by awarding us with political power. We now live within a global community which has certain expectations with regards to our conduct, whether political, economic or social. Indeed it is such expectations that enabled us to build the enduring democracy by which Nigeria is now governed in the first place and the PDP should set an example in these regards, irrespective of the behavior of our political Opponents. Another lesson we need to learn is with regards to the role of the youth in our political and economic governance. Nigeria culture has traditionally placed so much emphasis on age, partly as a result of our traditional value of respect and party out of belief that experiences is key to individual performance, more so than vision, willingness to embrace change and sheer energy. However, social research increasingly indicates that the Nigeria electorate, which itself comprises predominantly youths, now believes that the youth can and should play a bigger role if positive change is to be brought into the national polity for national benefit. Such benefit is supported by the simple fact that the old guard, with their old ways of handing issues has not affected Nigeria’s effort toward accelerated socio economic growth and development. Thus a greater role for the youth is not just a strategy to win more votes; it is also necessary for investigating our quality of governance. Again it falls on our great party, to lead way in this regard and our effort to regain political power at the federal level presents a unique opportunity to put this into practice for our own political fortunes to improve and for Nigeria’s fortunes as a sovereign nation to improve as well. The handwriting on the wall is clear: even the blind Can see while the hearing impaired can also hear it now that President Muhammadu Bohan and his APC government has failed miserably and the honorable thing for them is to admit and apologize to Nigerians for wasting their time. The N3.0 says things are getting better but we cannot see it and we cannot feel it, change is what we need in 2019. We therefore urge all Nigerian voters to come out en masse on February 19, 2019, to vote out this inept, corrupt and incompetent govern casting their votes for His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar. We need a change and all hands must be on deck, God bless you for coming. Comrade Oscar Ugoh Chairman PDP Ghana.
